Pick up from your accommodation and:

Head to the airport for a domestic flight to Adiyaman. Upon arrival at the airport, be greeted by our team and begin the tour towards Mount Nemrut.

Arrival in Adiyaman: our first stop will be at the Black Bird Burial Mound, known as ‘Karakus Tumulus’, a funerary monument belonging to the Commagene Royal Family. As we proceed, we will pass by the ancient Roman Bridge at Cendere, which is dated to the beginning of the 3rd century and is still in use today. We will finally visit Arsemia Ancient City, discovered only in 1951, and its pair of castles, the oldest known as Arsemia and the new castle at Kahta.

Mount Nemrut: as we approach the mount, we will notice several statues and other rock depictions. Mount Nemrut is also known as the Mountain of the Gods as these statues depict Gods from different mythologies, including the Greek, Armenian and Mesopotamian. As we made our way to the hilltop, we can appreciate the beautiful panorama of the sunset behind the surrounding valleys, as well as the 3 terraces attached to the mount.

Once the sun has set and we have finished the tour’s first day, you will be transferred to your accommodation in Adiyaman or Kahta and settle for the night.

Day 2: Sanliurfa, Harran & Gobeklitepe (B, L)

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and meet with your tour-guide to start today’s tour.

Sanliurfa: also known as the “City of Prophets”, Sanliurfa was home to the Old Testament prophets Jethro, Job, Elijah, and Abraham. Also, the prophet Moses lived in this region and worked as a shepherd before returning to Egypt. We will visit the pool of Abraham (Ibrahim), which tell the story of God saving Abraham from a wicked king who wanted to kill Abraham by throwing him into a fire pit. The fire turned to water and logs into fish, the pool which we will witness.

Harran: dated back to as far as the 3rd Millenium, this was an important city during the Mesopotamian era. This whole region was central to the trade routes between the Tigris Plains and the Mediterranean. Later, Harran was home to Prophet Abraham and is mentioned both in the Bible and Quran. It is also famous for having been home to one of the earliest known universities in the world and the place where the Roman Emperor Caracalla was murdered in 217. Harran is also known for its adobe houses made of mud and clay, resembling bee hives.

Gobekli Tepe: located near the city of Sanliurfa, Gobeklitepe is considered to be the oldest megalithic religious site in the world, from 11,500 years ago. These Neolithic ruins predate the Egyptian Pyramids, with its youngest layer – The Pre-Pottery Neolithic layer – dated to between 8300 and 7400 BCE. Discovered only recently, Gobekli Tepe is the earliest known evidence of monumental human-made architecture so far.

End of the tour: Having the tour finished, be transferred to the airport in Sanliurfa for a flight back to Istanbul. Upon arrival, our representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel.
