This 2-day tour from Istanbul by flight focuses on getting the most of Ephesus and Pamukkale, a must visit while in Turkey. Get picked from your accommodation in Istanbul and head to the airport for a domestic flight to Izmir. Our driver will meet you and take you to the tour’s meeting point. Take a break and have lunch in a local restaurant before starting at Ephesus.

DAY 1: Ephesus (L)

Pick up from airport continue to:

Ephesus – Ancient Greek city that rose to prominence as a seaport during the Roman golden age. In this most important archaeological site of Turkey, you will get the chance to visit highlights such as the Library of Celsus and the massive Great Theater, where St Paul once preached. After having explored the main Ephesus sites, pass by the nearby remains of the Basilica of St. John, a 6th-century church built on the apostle’s believed burial site. Among these, we will also visit:

  • Baths of Varius
  • Odeon
  • Prytaneion
  • Fountain of Polio
  • Temple of Hadrian
  • Temple of Domitian
  • Library of Celsus
  • The Great Theatre

The Temple of Artemis – One of the original seven wonders of the ancient world which was a famous place of pilgrimage for centuries.

House of Virgin Mary – Discovered in a vision by a bedridden German nun in 1812, this stone building is believed by many Catholics and Muslims to be where the Virgin Mary lived her last years. There is also a healing fountain.

At the end of the first day, your driver will meet you and take you to your accommodation. Spend the night in an authentic boutique hotel in Kusadasi or Selcuk

Day 2: Pamukkale & Hierapolis (B-L)

Treat yourself to a tasty breakfast at the hotel before the pick-up. Enjoy the scenic Turkish countryside on the trip to Pamukkale (2,5h) while your guide provides you with insights about the area and the cultural aspects. Have a delicious lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the Travertines of Pamukkale.

Pamukkale – Pamukkale, which means cotton castle, is comprised of a series of limestone terraces formed by the action of the hot springs which rise from the ground at a temperature of 35ºC. The water is highly concentrated on carbonic acid and lime and, flows downhill forming wonderful stalactites, waterfalls, and basins. While marveling at this fairytale atmosphere, learn from your guide how the Romans used to dip in these therapeutical waters to vitalize their bodies.

Hierapolis – This ancient Hellenic and Roman city stands right on top of the Cotton Castle, on a plateau made of sedimentary limestone rock formed over the centuries. Learn how Stephanus of Byzantium influenced the creation of its real name, which translates to Sacred City and marvel at the glorious temples that are found here. Along with the Necropolis and the Grand Theater, we will also visit:

  • Roman Basilica Baths
  • Domitian Gate
  • Latrines
  • Agora
  • Colonnaded Street
  • Byzantine Gate
  • Roman fountains
  • Grand theater.

The Pool of Cleopatra: Swim amidst the ruins of a temple in the extraordinary pool of Cleopatra and take the rest of the afternoon to explore on your own.

End of tour: Having the tour finished, relax on the ride back to the airport. Once in Istanbul, your driver will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel.
